Title: WALANT Procedure in the Office Setting
Description
Wide Awake Local Anesthesia No Tourniquet (WALANT) is a surgical technique that allows many hand and wrist procedures to be safely performed in an office setting using local anesthesia without sedation or a tourniquet. Patients remain awake, enabling surgeons to assess movement and function during the procedure while reducing anesthesia-related risks. WALANT improves efficiency, lowers costs, minimizes preoperative requirements, and shortens recovery time, creating a safe, convenient, and patient-centered alternative to traditional operating room surgery.
Program Objectives: Understand the clinical principles and benefits of the WALANT technique.
- Identify appropriate patient selection criteria and procedures suitable for an office-based setting.
- Review safety protocols, infection control measures, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Examine operational workflows, staffing considerations, and supply needs to support in-office surgery.
- Evaluate the financial and patient-experience advantages compared to traditional operating room procedures.
- Promote best practices to ensure high-quality outcomes and patient satisfaction
